  • Nikon Wireless Transmitter Utility version 1.9.3 (free). A Utility to set up Nikon’s advanced wireless functions with the Nikon Z series. Last updated August 2020.

Note: Nikon currently only supports macOS 10.4 through 10.6 (High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina), as well as Windows 10. The good news is that Nikon has gotten a little better at keeping up with the latest OS releases. The bad news is that they've dropped support of earlier OS versions aggressively.

Other relevant Nikon software for Z System owners:

  • Nikon SnapBridge (free) iOS 2.7.0, Android 2.7.0. The SnapBridge app is needed for the Z50, Z5, Z6, and Z7 to communicate with your smartphone via Bluetooth. • Nikon NEF Codec (Windows) version 1.31.0 (free). An extension for Windows that allows the operating system to understand and properly display and interact with Nikon NEF raw files. Last updated June 2017.
  • Nikon Message Center 2.3.1 (free). A system that provides update information to you as new updates appear. Installed with some other Nikon software. Last updated November 2018.
  • Short Movie Creator 1.4.0 (Mac) 1.3.1 (Windows). Last updated May 2013.

Finally, if you're looking for a free raw converter for Nikon NEF files produced by the Z cameras, you should consider Capture One Express for Nikon. This reduced feature set version leaves out the tethered shooting capabilities and many advanced editing features, but provides a solid basic raw conversion capability.
