Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S Lens Specifications

Thom's Commentary: This 14-24mm f/2.8 was the final lens in Nikon’s new f/2.8 Z-mount zoom trio. The first two were superb, and this one lives up to the same level, so users should be ecstatic. Some will find the 14-24mm focal range a little on the “not enough side” (there’s strong demand for a 16-35mm that bridges the wide angle further into the near normal range). The 14-30mm is also technically a tad bit wider after lens corrections, though the 14-24mm doesn’t have any real corner smear. Field curvature that was in the F-mount version also seems suppressed in this lens. Build quality is S-line all the way, and the front element is not quite as exposed as on the F-mount version. The lens hood situation is a commendable attempt on Nikon’s part, but really fails operationally if you’re a filter user. Likewise, the OLED panel really doesn’t provide enough information accurately enough to be useful. Optically, however, the lens is pretty much across the board excellent. Moreover, the lens has no tendency to obnoxious flares and colored ghosts with light in the frame, as I’ve found on some Sony wide angle zooms.
