Cage Your Z

Video shooters often want a cage around their camera so that they can hang lots of accessories (handle, external recorder, microphones, pre-amps, lights, etc.). While there are generic cages that would fit the Z's, you would normally want one that was designed to hug the contours of the camera body, both to minimize the the bulk, but also because this acts as a protective, structural housing in many cases.

Here are some Z cages:

  • 8Sinn. Makes both a basic cage and a cage with top handle for the Z5, Z6, and Z7 cameras. Cage at B&H (advertiser link)
  • Tilta. A full cage for Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 cameras. Tilta makes both the simple cage, as well as accessories that mount to it, most notably a quick-release top handle and a side power handle. Cage at B&H (advertiser link)
  • Smallrig  Cages at B&H (advertiser link)
    • 2243. A full cage for the Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 cameras. Smallrig also makes an optional FTZ support adapter (2244) for this cage.
    • 2262. A half cage for the Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 cameras.
    • CCN2499. A full cage for the Nikon Z50 camera.
    • 2882. A full cage for the Nikon Z5, Z6, and Z7 cameras when mounted with the MB-N10 Battery Grip.
